I have dealt with TAGS for over 5 years & 2 Beautiful rescues. During Covid we tried everywhere to rescue a dog after our gentle Buddy passed away & TAGS was the only organization who would consider our application. We wanted a companion for our aging Bemese Mountain/Lab cross Suki & that’s when TAGS got us Mia a gentle loving soul. Unfortunately we only had her for 4 years when she passed away. TAGS came through for us once again withe a beautiful intelligent Australian Shepherd Cross. We have only had her 3 months & she has fit right in with the family. Thanks again TAGS. If you live in Durham Region & you’re looking for a rescue, Cathy & her terriffic volunteer staff will be happy to assist you.

I recently adopted a dog from TAGS and highly recommend Kathy and her volunteers. With each adoption stage they are very caring, considerate and knowledgeable. The adoption process is extremely thorough with the emphasis on the best medical practices, training and understanding of your animal. I highly recommend TAGS to anyone within the Durham region who is considering adoption.

they don’t answer the phone so you can’t get in contact with them and they don’t let you in their facility and just ignore you if you drive all the way up there! Horribly run!

We recently adopted our dog from TAGS and had the most amazing experience. Kathy and all of her volunteers are so kind, passionate and knowledgeable. There is support throughout the whole process. We especially enjoyed the training classes. We learned so much and felt it was a great way to bond with our dog. We can’t thank Kathy and all of her volunteers enough! If you are looking to foster or adopt in the Durham area, I highly recommend TAGS! This group does amazing work.

I cannot recommend this group enough. They truly care about finding the right fit for the dogs in their care and are very particular. (Which may not suit some folks) They conduct a very thorough screening process, meet and greet, home visit and home stay. Then 8 weeks of training classes which are invaluable and this is part of the foster to adopt program until the dog becomes truly yours. They provide so much information and help and take care of any vet bills (including spay or neuter) and they are always there to help even after the adoption is finalised. Frankly I don't know how they do it. I have adopted three times before, met the dog, been handed the leash and been responsible for spay/ neuter with no follow up. I am so grateful that they have trusted me with my beautiful boy.

There is no better rescue shelter in the GTA. The sense of love and caring that goes into every single element is just overwhelming and the person who has been running it for years and years is responsible for this and her army of supporters. I love dogs and to see them get the second chance with such caring people finding them homes is, well, just such a reassurance about humanity.

Saw their pet adoption event at the Ajax PetSmart today and they had a poor cat named Lucy stuck in a cage surrounded by barking dogs. The poor thing was at the back of her cage shaking and multiple people complained, yet she’s still stuck in that cage. Absolute poor planning on their part and absolutely beyond cruel to this poor cat who’s already been through enough. I will never support this rescue if that’s how they treat their animals. Absolutely disgusting.

TAGS is a volunteer program, we do not have paid staff. We clearly state on our website how to meet our pets as they are in foster homes all over Durham Region. We also say to email for a faster response, did you do that? Please have more respect for our volunteers and the time they give to help animals.
